Shirley Brown
November 17, 1927 - September 30, 2015

Shirley Sarah Brown, 87, passed away on Wednesday, September 30th, 2015 at the Legacy at Preston Hollow in Dallas, Texas. She was born on November 17, 1927 in Newark, New Jersey to Sam and Jennie Gerstein.
Shirley grew up in Newark, New Jersey and was only six years old when her mother died and she and her four siblings were put in an orphanage. After leaving the orphanage, she supported herself by working in a department store. It was at a dance that she met her future husband, Seymour Brown. They married in 1951 in the Bronx, New York. They were happily married for 41 years. She enjoyed listening to her husband and son play various musical instruments. In her later years at the Legacy at Preston Hollow, she enjoyed playing Bingo and going to Friday night services.

She is survived by her brother, Edward Gerstein, her niece, Jodie Gerstein, her sister-in-law, Florence (Lawrence) Lefkof; nephews Gary (Marsha) Lefkof, Steven Brown, Farley (Roxanne) Brown; nieces Caroline White, Amy Lefkof; great- nephews Jaron Whitfill, Gus Mayopoulos; great-nieces Melissa Lefkof, Heather (Michael) Krol and Katie Mayopoulos.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Bernie, Bobby and sister, Mina, her husband, Seymour and their son Mitchell.

A funeral service was held October 4, 2015 at Mt. Sinai section of Restland Memorial Park, officiated by Rabbi Howard Wolk from Jewish Family Service and the Legacy at Preston Hollow.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Legacy at Preston Hollow and the staff from VITAS Hospice who provided kindness and excellent care for Shirley.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Legacy at Preston Hollow.
