In loving memory of

Jay Blumberg
November 5, 1948 - November 29, 2015

Jay Ronald Blumberg was born on November 5, 1948 in Houston, Texas to Wallace and Neoma Blumberg. He grew up in Dallas, the middle brother to three sisters, Joyce, Sharon, and Vicki. He attended Lakewood Forest Elementary School and Woodrow Wilson High School, where he was on the 50th reunion planning committee.
Jay attended college at The University of Texas at Austin, a path his daughter was proud to follow many years later. In graduate school, he taught computer science classes while pursuing his graduate degree in accounting. He built many of the accounting programs that are still used today by top accounting firms such as Ernst and Young.

The love of Jay's life was born on December 2, 1987. Elizabeth Brendan Blumberg was the apple of her daddy's eye. Jay was a completely devoted and loving father committed to ensuring his daughter's happiness. He supported her decisions, even when he doubted their success. The words, "I told you so," never forming in his mouth. There was no task too big for his little girl. A shingled playhouse with operating doorbell and drawbridge stands as a physical testament to his labors of love for his daughter.

Jay will be remembered by those that knew him as having a great sense of humor and an incredibly dry wit - on occasion not completely understood until later! Once, when Liz's boyfriend Eric was picking her up, Jay pretended to call the police on a remote control reporting suspicious activity outside his home and giving Eric's description. Another time, he gave his niece a Spanish Quincenera card upon her college graduation when she was supposed to be fluent in the language.

The light and laughter that Jay brought into a room was dimmed on November 29, 2015 when Jay passed away in his home. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Blumberg of Houston, TX, his sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Bill Hardy of San Diego, CA, his sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Paul Steusel of Escondido, CA, as well as many cousins and nieces, and his aunt, Arla Gitlitz . He is preceded in death by his parents, Wally and Neoma Blumberg and his sister Vicki Porterfield.

Memorial services for Jay will be held on Thursday, December 3rd at 7 PM. The service will take place at Houston Jewish Funerals at 5455 Dashwood Suite 100, Bellaire, TX 77401.
