David Cohen
July 25, 1932 - December 16, 2015

David H. Cohen, 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Wednesday morning, December 16, 2015, in Houston, TX.He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sandra Cohen; his devoted children and their spouses, Pamela Smith (Donald) of Ft. Walton Beach, Fl., Laurie Applebaum (Phillip) of Dallas, TX, and Phillip Cohen (Lisa) of Austin, TX; five grandchildren, Shayna and Michelle Applebaum, Parker and Blake Cohen, and Zachary Smith.
Born in Hastings, Nebraska and raised in Rockport, Missouri by parents Gertrude and Corporal Cohen, who later relocated the family to Omaha, Nebraska.
After graduating from Rockport High School, Dave attended The University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He worked for the school newspaper reviewing new released music, and played the clarinet in the marching band. After two years of college he enlisted in the army and served in Korea during the Korean War. Upon discharge he then returned to UNL to complete his education, meet his future wife, and receive his Bachelors of Business Administration.
Dave then embarked on a very successful career in retail with his first job being an Assistant Buyer and then Buyer for Brandeis in Omaha. He was soon offered a position in Houston to advance his career as the Divisional Merchandise Manager for the Men's and Boy's Department at Battlesteins. Prior to retirement Dave held the Import Director position for the national chain of Oshman's stores in the United States.
Dave fought many medical setbacks over the course of thirty three years and had a fierce determination to persevere. He took pleasure in traveling with his wife, spending time with his family, reading, following politics, and cheering on his alma mater Cornhusker team!
Graveside services were held on Friday, December 18, 2015, at 3:00pm, at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery.
