Harold Herbert Levine, 67, died on Saturday, February 17, 2018 in Houston, TX.
He leaves his beloved wife of 44 years, Martine (Flatowicz) Levine; his son Jeffrey Levine, his daughter Lisa Rubin and son-in-law Eric Rubin, his brother Ira Levine, and many close family members and friends.
Born and raised in Gainesville, TX, the son of Ben and Blanche Levine, Harold graduated from Gainesville High School in 1968. He developed a passion for radio, serving as a DJ at KGAF in high school. He attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he was a DJ at KUT, and graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism in Advertising cum laude in 1971. Harold began working on his MBA, serving as Graduate Student Senator. He served as President of Texas Hillel, and met Martine at the Hillel doors on March 17, 1972, which led her to transfer to UT to join him. They were married on August 26, 1973 in Omaha, Nebraska. He completed his MBA at Houston Baptist University and became a Certified Public Accountant.
Harold began a career as a bank audit specialist at Haskins and Sells (now Deloitte) in Houston. Over his distinguished career, he had many years of experience in public accounting and controllership, primarily in the banking, food service, broadcasting, and legal industries. He served as controller for over ten years at The Feldman Law Firm, LLP. Harold was a member of AICPA, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Broadcast Cable Financial Management Association.
Harold created the Bop Radio Group which offered radio stations highlighting different eras of music, and operated them for over ten years. He chronicled music history, created original jingles appropriate for the time periods, and connected with listeners across the globe. He was very well-read and interested in politics in the spirit of tikkun olam - improving the world.
Harold cherished Martine, his loving wife and best friend. He told her every morning, afternoon, and evening how much he loves her. He was very proud of his children, who both graduated from UT and work in higher education. Harold touched many lives and cultivated friendships from growing up in Gainesville, his time at UT, throughout his career in Houston, and across the world through the Bop Radio Group.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Congregation Beth Yeshurun, 4525 Beechnut St., Houston, TX 77096, or charity of choice.
