Robert Berry 01/08/2020
March 16, 1939 - January 8, 2020

Robert Dean Berry, of Ventura and Oelwein, IA, passed away January 8, 2020, at the age of 80 in Marshalltown, IA, at the Iowa Veterans Home after a brief fight with ALS. Cremation rites have be accorded. Arrangements have been entrusted to Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.

Robert grew up outside Stratford, IA. He proudly served our nation in the United States Air Force from 1958-1962 which took him to Canada, Cape Cod, and San Antonio. He spent the majority of his adult life in Oelwein, where he worked with Standard Oil and later with Covenant Medical Center. He loved all sports from an early age, playing baseball and basketball as a teenager and softball and bowling as an adult. He passed this passion along to his children who played multiple sports for Oelwein High School and all went on to compete at the college level. One of his proudest accomplishments he had was watching his three children play in the Iowa State Basketball tournament in Des Moines, IA, during their high school careers. He spent his last 15 years of retirement in Clear Lake, IA, during the summer, where he could often be found working at Rich's Muskie on the lake. During the winter months, he would drive to his adult children's homes to spend time with each of them and their families. It was during these months that he was able to create a special bond with his grandchildren.

Robert is survived by his three children: Shanda (Jules Pritchard) of Damascus, MD, Heath (Jean Marie) of Frederick, MD, and Alison (David Clem) of Southlake, TX; as well as his three grandchildren: Madelyn, Marin, and Max Clem of Southlake; brothers: Darwin Berry (Verla) of Naples, FL, and Mike Berry (Grace) of Fort Meyers, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Janice (Alvasted) Berry; brothers: Ronald "Duke" Berry and Richard Berry.
