LaVilda Mae "Charlie" Bowers
January 22, 1934 - January 10, 2020

LaVilda Mae "Charlie" Bowers, age 85, of Burlington died at 9:35 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2020 at her residence.
Born January 22, 1934 in Bloomfield, IA, she was the daughter of Neal A. and Mabel Irene (Hiner) Magorian. She married William Gene Bowers July 15, 1950 in Bloomfield, Iowa. They later divorced.
LaVilda worked for Champion Spark Plug as an inspector for 31 years until her retirement.
She was of Methodist faith.
Her pastimes included bowling, playing basketball, swimming, tumbling, avid bingo player and the Casino. LaVilda was excellent at math and a diehard Cardinal Fan. She loved to dance, watch westerns especially John Wayne, Wheel of Fortune and soap operas. LaVilda loved her dog Maggie. She had a heart of gold and would give anything to anybody.
Survivors include her children, Pat Gray and Kathy (Loran) Gerling of Burlington; Tom (Ken) Bowers of Dallas, TX; and Linda Bowers of Burlington; stepson Jeff Hood of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Bill Bowers; two brothers, Larry Magorian and James "Mac" Magorian and her companion of many years Joe N. Hood.
The funeral service for LaVilda will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 14th at Lunning Chapel. Rev. Randy Gearhart will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Renal Dialysis.

"We were sadden to hear of your mothers passing. We pray she left in a peacefully. If Kathy is the least bit like her mother then I know "Charlie" must have been an awesome women!!! The Gerlings were very good neighbors to the Gengenbacher's and may I add, still are!!! Know, too. that your mother, you and all your family will be in our thoughts and daily prayers. MaY "Charlie" rest in peace!!! Blessings Enough!!!"
