In loving memory of

Arlene Johnson
May 18, 1926 - January 23, 2020

Arlene Mavis Johnson, age 93 years young of Aredale, Iowa, passed away on January 23, 2020. She was born May 18, 1926, in rural Aredale, to Ivan and Edna (Conn) Ayers.

After graduating high school, Arlene attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls where she earned her teaching degree. During her time teaching, she met and married Peter Johnson. Pete and Arlene made their home in Aredale where they raised their two children.

Arlene had many talents but her passion resided in the kitchen. She loved to cook and bake and nothing made her happier than sharing her table with others. Arlene also loved to crochet, garden, and sew. She greeted everyone with a heartfelt smile and often a hug. And strangers? There were no such thing to Arlene. She would refer to them as friends you haven't met.

Arlene was a devout member of the Aredale Gospel Hall and was active for years in the community, whether it be coaching softball, working at the Co-op, or volunteering as a home health nurse.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Pete Johnson; her parents, Ivan and Edna Ayers; her brother, Duane; and her great-grandson, Eric St. John.

She is survived by her two children, Butch (Kathy) Johnson of Aredale, Iowa, and Jan (Denny) Perry of Pharr, Texas; her grandchildren, Cindy St. John, Tom (Mardee) Johnson, and Pete (Bobbie) Johnson; several great-grandchildren and brother Melvin Ayers of Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until service time on Wednesday at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont. Burial will take place in the Dumont Cemetery.

"Aunt Arlene, you were always thinking of others.I remember visiting with Mom many times and you were always canning, baking, or cooking some wonderful treats. Today my heart is heavy as I was not able to come and see you off. May you soar high today and always. Love you always and may you R.I.P."

"Arlene was always so caring and supporting of us young girls growing up in Aredale, we were always welcome in her home. Later in life always enjoyed visiting with her at the family Thanksgiving dinner at Butch and Kathys. To her family Butch, Kathy, Jan, Denny and grandchildren Cindy, Tom, and Pete I know heaven has taken another angel home, to join our other angels. Sallie and Darwin"
