In loving memory of

Nancy A. Lafary
October 24, 1936 - January 26, 2020

Cuba - Nancy A. Lafary, 83, of Cuba passed away peacefully at 4:58 p.m. January 26, 2020, at her home surrounded by her family and her beloved cat George.
Nancy was born October 24, 1936 in Macomb, the daughter of Willis and Virgie (Mullen) Stockham. She first married Richard Shaw, who passed away June 27, 1970. She then married Clair "Bud" Lafary on July 1, 1971. He passed away on July 6, 2017. Also proceeding her in death were her son Matt (Teresa) Shaw on January 24, 2019, and her great-grandson Zachory Taylor on January 15, 2013.
Nancy is survived by her daughters Cindy (John) Stumph of Sycamore, and Sally Shields of Canton, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her grandchildren. She was known as the "Shoe Grandma," and taking her grandkids shoe shopping was always a great excuse for her to buy herself another pair of shoes.
She was a devoted life-long member of the Cuba Christian Church, and a tireless volunteer for her community. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Cuba schools, and then as an executive assistant at Illinois River Correctional Center, from where she retired.
Cremation rites will be accorded at Oaks- Hines Funeral Home, and private services will be held at a later time.
The family requests memorials be made to Harbor Light Hospice or the Buddy Bag Program (checks made payable to Cuba Elementary with Buddy Bags in the memo line).
