John Cardasis
August 22, 1922 - June 4, 2013

John Cardasis passed away on June 4, 2013 following a short illness. He was born in 1922 in Epirus near the border of Greece and Albania. Mr. Cardasis came to the United States in 1935. A prominent business man in Detroit, Mr. Cardasis, co-owned and ran the Bluebird Baking Company for 53 years. He valued hard work and generosity. The latter was evident throughout his life with family, friends, relatives in Europe and the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. He served in World War II in the Pacific Rim in the United States Army. Throughout his life, he was proud to be an American.

He is survived by his wife, Anna, his daughter Maria Cardasis-Malliaras (Stavros), and his son Costa (Lucille). He is survived by six grandchildren, James (Gina), Daniel, Dana Staniec (Damian Suvaka), Jonathan, Nicolas, and Evan, as well as his great grandchild, Drew Cardasis. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, James Kiourtsis, Steve (Joyce), his sister-in-law, Ethel Cardasis, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Pauline Litos, his brother, Michael Cardasis, and his sister-in-law, Elaine Kiourtsis.

He was an inspirational role model for many. A humble and generous person, Mr. Cardasis always did the right thing and was a stalwart patriarch of his family. He will be missed by all but his principles will live on.
