Xavier Burgoyne M.D., 76, died suddenly Monday, Jan. 20, 2014.
Born Nov. 30, 1937, Dr. Burgoyne is survived by his wife, Terry Burgoyne; children, Paul Burgoyne, Jenny Burgoyne, Amy Hussey and Elizabeth Bessie Burgoyne as well as nine grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and four sisters.
He was predeceased by his brother, Francis Burgoyne; sister, Maryanne Burgoyne, and first wife, Carol Lynne Burgoyne.
Dr. Burgoyne was a devoted father, husband, and physician. He practiced psychiatry in the Detroit area for the last 50 years. He was a voracious reader, avid sailor, canoeist, pilot and tennis player. He was a collector and could often be found shopping local garage sales. He enjoyed sharing his life experiences with his friends, family, and students. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at Chas. Verheyden Funeral Home, 16300 Mack, Grosse Pointe Park.
A funeral service will be held at noon Friday, Jan. 24, at the funeral home. Visitation begins at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to National Public Radio at npr.org.
