Grosse Pointe Farms resident Susan Petz, nee Wood, passed away, Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015.
A former resident of Grosse Pointe Woods, Sue graduated from Dominican High School before working at Ross Roy Advertising Agency, where she met Jack Petz. They married shortly thereafter and spent 62 loving years together before Jack passed away last October.
Sue had five sons, whom she raised with love and care and deep loyalty. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her life and she loved her role as the Petz family news reporter, keeping everyone posted on the comings and goings of family members of all ages.
Sue was active in the Grosse Pointe Theatre and the Fine Arts Society of Detroit. Over the years, she also loved playing tennis, badminton and golf and was tough to beat when it came to a game of Chinese checkers.
Her family described Sue as beautiful, energetic and a witty woman who had plenty of spirit and knew how to have fun. She was well known for her culinary talents and an invitation to a dinner party hosted by Sue Petz was a ticket to an evening filled with laughter, great conversation and great food.
She was the heart of her family and will be deeply missed.
Sue was predeceased by her husband, Jack Petz.
She is survived by her sons John, Timothy, Patrick (Melissa), Marty (Joanne) and Tony (Amanda); 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lakeshore, Grosse Pointe Farms. Visitation begins at 9:15 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Capuchin Soup Kitchen at cskdetroit.org/help-us-serve.
