Fern Joann Wetjen
May 26, 1938 - February 7, 2020

Williamsburg-Fern Joann Wetjen was born May 26, 1938 near Homestead, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Elsie (Kleinmeyer) Huedepohl. She attended St. John Lutheran School near Homestead, Marengo School and graduated from Williamsburg High School. Fern was united in marriage to Adrian Wetjen on September 6, 1957 at St. John Lutheran Church near Homestead. Fern worked for Amana Refrigeration as a secretary in her earlier years and then raised her family and was a vital part of the farming operation. She later worked for Super Valu in Williamsburg. She was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Fern enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking, taking winter trips to the Caribbean and was a avid Hawkeye fan. Fern especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren, fishing with them and camping at the lake during the summer. Fern passed away with her family by her side on Friday, February 7th, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 81.

She is survived by her husband Adrian; four children, Bret (Pam) Wetjen of Homestead, Scot Wetjen, Jeff (Rhonda) Wetjen and Ann Wetjen (Larry St. John) all of Williamsburg; 8 grandchildren, Chantille Wetjen, Ashley (Tricia) Wetjen, Chance (Kali Slaymaker) Wetjen, Malory (Tim) Randall, Mikayla (Preston) Wetjen-Grimm, Garrett Wetjen, Will Wetjen and Isabel Wetjen; 6 great grandchildren, Ailea Wetjen, Eleri Wetjen, Porter Wetjen, Quinn Randall, Kiaya Grimm and Myla Randall and a sister Zelda Tanke of Deep River. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Wilbert Huedepohl and Ralph Huedepohl.

Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am Monday, February 10, 2020 at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for the Lutheran Interparish School, Highland Ridge Care Center or Iowa City Hospice. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
