Bold, outspoken, loving, and loyal are just a few ways to describe H. June Brock. Several events which occurred in 1921 include New York Yankee pitcher Babe Ruth sets new home run record, Wonder Bread is sold nationally for the first time, Betty Crocker was developed to help with cooking questions, and on May 31, 1921, Reid and Edna (Moyer) Eberhard welcomed the birth of their second child, Helen June in Whitley County, Indiana.
June grew up from humble upbringings, in a farmhouse on South State Road 9, with an older brother Gail, younger sister Phyllis, and younger brother Tom. June attended Columbia City High School. Her loved of basketball began when she made the team, and she proudly saved her money to buy a letter jacket to wear. After graduating with the Class of 1939, June went to work for most of her life as a secretary at Testworth Laboratories in Columbia City, before moving on to Food Marketing in Fort Wayne. Her final job was at Kids Closet in Columbia City, with her good friend Judy Anderson, where most of her paycheck went to buy clothing for grandchildren.
June was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. June met Robert Brock through friends and went to see The Bridge Over River Kwai. On September 27, 1958 June married Robert L. Brock at Grace Lutheran Church in Columbia City and spent the next 60 years in her most prized and adored home at 323 North Line Street. June enjoyed playing bridge once a week with her friends, cooking delicious meals, shopping with family, dining out, flower gardening, eating her vegetable crop, and of course, most importantly, Bossing everyone around!
June was a very independent, tough, hard worker, that was realistic and down to earth. She also loved her grandchildren and family above all else and she fondly "found the beauty in her own backyard", were ahead of anything else. Hosting at Christmas meant the world to her. June was known by all that knew her as "Mommu". Family time included vacations to Colorado, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.
In her free time, June could be found watching I.U. Basketball, Everyone Loves Raymond, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, or the local news on television, in addition to reading romance novels. A few noteworthy quotes June was known for saying include "all comes out in the wash", "it's not necessary", "toot-toot", and "Poppy can do it". It is no wonder this great lady will be always remembered in the hearts of all that knew her.
H. June "Mommu" Brock, age 98, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 10:40 am on Saturday February 8, 2020 at Miller's at Oak Pointe, Columbia City. Survivors include her children, Jeff Culp, of Battle Creek, Michigan, VaLorie "Lorie" (John) Plant, of Columbia City and Bill (Tobi) Culp, of Columbia City; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, along with two on the way; two great-great-grandchildren; brother Thomas Eberhard of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Daniel Culp, grandson, Bryan Culp, sister Phyllis Felix, brother Gail Eberhard, and husband of 60 years, Robert Brock.
Visitation for friends and family will be from 12:00-2:00 pm Thursday, February 13, 2020 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services for June will immediately follow at 2:00 pm, with Certified Funeral Celebrant Sharon Brockhaus officiating. Burial in Nolt Cemetery, Columbia City. "Beautiful Mrs. Brock, I spent much of my years during grade school hanging out with my friend Lorie at the Brock home although I always called her Mrs. Culp, June would smile at me and then I would catch myself and say Mrs. Brock, she only smiled, never upset with me, then my adult years I would run into her and she told me to call her June and Bob, always warm smiles, they never forgot me! With such sadness Lorie, Bill and Jeff I?m so sorry for your loss, she is a beautiful soul and will be greatly missed.
