Joan Adams
February 19, 1921 - January 15, 2020

Joan B. Adams, age 98, of Plano, Texas, and formerly of West Hartford, Connecticut, passed away on January 15, 2020.

She was born Joan Frances Burfield on February 19, 1921 in Portsmouth, England to Edith Victoria Chappell and Alfred Burfield and was raised in London. Joan was a British war bride, meeting her husband Harold van Laer Adams of Topeka, Kansas, who was serving in the US Army in England during World War II. They married in London on October 6, 1945. She acquired her US citizenship, loved this country, and no one defended it more strongly. They lived in Pennsylvania, Venezuela, and Texas, but longest in Wichita, Kansas, and West Hartford, Connecticut. Joan and Harold were married nearly 55 years until his death on September 9, 2000.

She was an avid bridge player, and she and Harold enjoyed travel throughout South America, Europe, and Asia.

She is survived by her four children, Bruce Geoffrey Adams (Kris), Abigail Adams Crockett (Bob), Harold van Laer Adams, Jr. (Leigh), and Beverley Adams Huet (Tony) and six grandchildren Christopher Adams, Stacy Adams, Thomas Crockett, Anna Crockett, Bruce Geoffrey Adams, Jr., and Anthony Huet.

She will be interred with her husband Harold at DFW National Cemetery.
