Ruth A. Riedel
March 15, 1923 - February 12, 2020

Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona.

Ruth Adelma (McFarland) Riedel was born March 15, 1923 in Burt, Iowa, the daughter of George Otto and Ada Blanche McFarland. She grew up in near Burt and graduated from Burt High School in 1941. During and following high school she worked various waitressing job at, Hammerstrom's Café in Burt, Waldron's Café in Algona and Johnson House Café and Motel in Algona. Ruth was baptized and confirmed on March 31, 1942 at Trinity Lutheran Church.
On July 20, 1947, Ruth was united in marriage to Lawrence Herbert Riedel at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. After their marriage they lived in Algona where they raised their family. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family and was there for her daughters. She always enjoyed playing cards, and board games, knitting which she taught herself. Quilting was another thing she loved to do, she would make quilts out of family members clothing and give them to her family. She also enjoyed cooking, two family favorites were her goulash and banana bread, even supplying her kids or grandkids with them if they wanted to take some home. After Lawrence's retirement in 1982 they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.

Ruth died Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at Accura Healthcare of Bancroft. She was 96.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Linda and LeRoy Wolf of Forest City; Bettie and Roger Ditsworth of Bancroft; grandchildren, Scott (Barb) Wolf, Jason Wolf; Kelly, Lisa and Mark (Jen) Ditsworth; great-grandchildren, Justin and Emily Wolf; Anthony, Brianna, Crystal, Zach, Korey and Zoe Ditsworth and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Blanche (Cecil) Long; brothers, Harley (Dorothy) McFarland and Darrell (Louise) McFarland, sisters-in-law, Laura (Duane) Johnson and Marjorie (Raymond) Zeimet, and brother-in-law, Stanley (Selma) Riedel.
