Mac Durham Starnes Sr.
July 24, 1936 - February 13, 2020

Mac Durham Starnes Sr., 83, passed away, February 13, 2020 at Sugar Land Methodist Hospital.

Born in Houston, Texas on July 24, 1936, Mac was the son of Willow Drue Garner Starnes and Rufus Garland Starnes, Sr. Raised in Abilene, Texas, he was a graduate of Abilene High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Abilene Christian College in 1958. On June 2,1962, Mac married the love of his life, Charlotte Arlene Lockhart in San Angelo.

Mac's love for God was evident in all that he did. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ who was grateful for God's providence every day of his life. Mac loved football; playing at both Abilene High and Abilene Christian College. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the NFL by the Oakland Raiders as a center before returning to West Texas. Mac earned his living as a salesman and spent much of his adult life working for Dow Chemical around the country. His real vocation though, was that of husband and father. Along with his beloved Arlene, Mac raised five children and treasured fourteen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Mac was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Rufus G. Starnes, Jr. and his wife, Alicia Starnes; Yvonne Starnes Smith and her husband, Roger Smith; Elaine Starnes Bryant and her husband Jack Bryant and Ted Starnes.

Mac is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Arlene Starnes; children Laura Norman and husband Edward; Mac Starnes Jr. and wife Kimberly; Marcie Finley and husband Scott; Leslie DeLong and husband Jeff; and Jason Starnes and wife Heather. His beloved grandchildren Dylan, Michael, Catalina, Chelsea, Melissa, Casey, Emma, Lily, Mitchell, Kaitlyn, Kevin, Matthew, Jake, Nash, Henry and great granddaughter Charlotte will continue to cherish memories of their Papa.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 10:00-11:00 am with funeral services following at 1:00 pm at the Stafford Church of Christ, 402 Stafford Run, Stafford, Texas 77477. Graveside services at the Davis-Greenlawn Cemetery in Rosenberg will follow.
