Donald Levi “Tuff” Hayward age 82 of Maquoketa Iowa died on Wednesday evening October 12008.0 at his home in Maquoketa Iowa.


A celebration of his life will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday October 72008.0 from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa Iowa with Pastor Nathan Combs of Faith Community Church in Maquoketa officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 A.M. Service Time on Tuesday October 72008.0 from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa Iowa. Burial will be in the Esgate Cemetery rural Maquoketa Iowa.


Donald Levi “Tuff” Hayward was born on May 4 1926 in Maquoketa Iowa to George Levi Hayward and Louella (Marburger) Hayward. He attended Maquoketa Community Schools. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He married Charlene Heister.


Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy Donald did construction work. He then worked for the city of Omaha City of Tama and the City of Maquoketa as a public works supervisor. He had also owned and operated Hayward Construction Company for many years.  


Donald was a member of the American Legion and the Sabula VFW. He enjoyed country music fishing visiting with friends and family and pheasant hunting. He was known by his family as a generous man who loved to sing and play the guitar.


Donald is survived by: children- Mike (Cathy) Hayward of Maquoketa IA Molly Jo Hayward of Maquoketa IA & Lisa Belsan of Maquoketa IA; a brother- James (Janice) Hayward of Maquoketa IA; 4 grandchildren- Zackary Hayward Marcy Davidson Wes Hayward and Amanda Belsan; & 1 great-grandchild- Brody Belsan. He was preceded in death by his parents a sister- Joyce & 4 brothers- Lewie Russell George “Mutt” & William “Bill”.


A Donald Levi “Tuff” Hayward Memorial Fund has been established.
