James Michael Pierce, age 52, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 26, 2018. That evening, he was surrounded by his family as his faith became sight. He was a graduate of William Fleming High School in Roanoke, VA. He was an active member of Black Oak Heights Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN. Michael served his church through teaching the elementary school students and through volunteering in the media ministry. Michael was passionate about N.C. State athletics, space and the cosmos and making people laugh. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kimberly Taylor Pierce; father, James Homer Pierce; sisters, Leisa Donaldson and Jill Pierce; nephew, Douglas Graves (Shelby Graves); Niece, Christy Graves; father-in-law, David Taylor; mother-in-law, Beverly Taylor; brothers-in-law, David Taylor, Brian Taylor (Bryan Taylor); sister-in-law Terry Mills (Terry Mills); nephews, Jesse, Cameron, Austin, Bradley, Antonio and Damian; nieces, Hailey and Holly; honorary brother, Adam Malloy; honorary sister, Tiffany Kreiger. The funeral will be held on Saturday, December 29, at 2:00 PM at Black Oak Heights Baptist Church, 405 Black Oak Drive, Knoxville, TN 37912. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Black Oak Heights Baptist Church Media Ministry.
