Lauren Atz
Lauren Dean Atz 84, of Tempe, Arizona, formerly of Kendallville, Indiana passed away on March 15, 2013 after having suffered a fall. Mr. Atz was born in Kendallville on September 21, 1928 to Ralph Harold Atz and Elsie Wagner Atz. He married Susannah Herr in 1949. Lauren worked in the family business, Puritan Ice Cream Company and Atz Ice Cream Shoppes in Kendallville and Fort Wayne, until 1975. In 1975, Lauren and Susie relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona where they purchased a Hallmark Gift Shop which they operated for 20 years; Lauren spending much of his time operating the associated US Post Office Contract Station. Lauren was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Paradise Valley, for all of his years in Arizona. Surviving are his wife, Susannah, a brother, Norman Atz of Fort Wayne, IN., and four children including Marc (and Bobbi) Atz of Washington D.C., Douglas (and Deedra) Atz of Kendallville, IN, Barton (and Lisa) Atz of Woodland, CA, and Sarah Beth (and Dr. Thomas) Morgan of Sioux City, IA.and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service is being planned in Kendallville, Indiana with burial in Lakeview Cemetary, Kendallville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Paradise Valley.
