Thomas Billings

Thomas Niles Billings 62, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Tom was born May 7, 1951, in Plainfield, New Jersey. He went on to graduate from Wake Forest University in 1973 and moved to Arizona in 1974, where he had a successful career in heavy highway construction beginning with Bentson Contracting and ultimately with FNF Construction where he retired in 2010 after 23 years with the company. Tom loved to travel and enjoyed spending time with family and friends in Pinetop, AZ, playing golf, relaxing and enjoying the outdoors. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at just 9 years of age and struggled with the disease until his passing. He was fortunate to have received a kidney and pancreas transplant that enriched and extended his life for 20 years. Tom is preceded in death by his father, Paul Billings and mother, Cortna Billings. Tom is survived by his wife of 18 years, Amber Billings, his sister, Mary Ellen Culp (Wes), brother Jed Billings (Marie), nephews Scott Culp (Chasity), namesake Tom Billings (Kelly), nieces Laurie Schoonover (Jason) and Deena Ross (Justin). He is also survived by great nephews Casey Culp, Brady Billings, Jed Thomas Billings, Cade Billings, Trevor Schoonover, Sam Schoonover and Jack Ross and great nieces Cora Schoonover and Brianna Culp. Also, step daughter Wendy Mirbod (Farhad) and many extended family members and friends. Services will be at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E. Bell Rd, April 18th at 2pm. There will be a celebration of life immediately following at El Chorro, 5550 E. Lincoln Dr, Paradise Valley. Donations can be made in his name to JDRF, The Arizona Kidney Foundation, Arizona Heart Association, and HALO Rescue. Tom was an amazing man with a soft spoken presence that never went unnoticed. He was truly a great man, and our lives will never be the same with him gone. We miss you and love you Tom.

"I was looking Tom up after finding a childhood pic of us. I wanted to let him know how much his friendship had meant to me. He was a special person in my early life. I was always sorry we lost touch. I\'m sorry I was too late to tell him how much he had meant to me. My heart goes out to his family. I will always cherish my memories of Tom. My condolences go out to the Billings Family for your loss of such a super person."
