"So sorry to hear of Mr. Van Vleck\'s passing. He was kind enough to let me do his lawnwork during the summer for years. He always made a point to bring out cold drinks and after a particularly hard day of digging up bushes for him, he took me to Burger King as a bonus. I have never forgotten how nice him and Jeanie were to me and our family. I also fondly remember going golfing with him and my dad many times. John always whupped us! He didn\'t hit em hard but he hit em straight! We will miss him."

Jennifer Ramm wrote on Jul 11, 2014:

"Mr. Van Vleck and my father, John Ramm, worked together at Finney High School for man yyears. I met the Van Vlecks numerous times throughout the years that my Dad and Mr. Van Vleck were at Finney, and I always remembered what a charming, warm and friendly man John Van Vleck was. My Mom, Joann Ramm, and my Dad are currently living about a mile away from my husband and I in Fountain Hills, Arizona. How unusual that after all these years, we all ended up in Arizona, all the way from Michigan. Please accept our deepest condolences from our family to yours."

"I was so saddened to learn of Coach Van Vleck\'s passing, and my deepest sympathies go to the family. I was a young boy -- and also a twin -- when I met \"Mr. Van Vleck\" at Marquette Elementary School on the east side of Detroit many, many years ago. He was the gym teacher at our school and someone I will never forget -- always a positive attitude, interested in the students, and above all -- someone who really helped me and my brother along in our athletic endeavors. He was and will always be a favorite of ours. RIP, Mr. Van Vleck."

"I was a member of the Finney Basketball team in 1964 -65 when Mr. V, as we called him, was the coach. I remember him as a great teacher of the game, a real coach. My other memories of him were that he was always dressed very stylish and that the girls at Finney were in love with him and his twin brother. My sincere sympathy for your loss. I will always remember him and what he meant to my success later in life. Bob Vandenbergh"
