Dr. Horace Chester (H.C.) Purtzer, D.O., of Phoenix, AZ, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, April 15, 2016 at his home in Phoenix, AZ. He was born July 19, 1921 in Madison, Nebraska. He attended Wayne State University ('42) where he met the love of his life, Faye Sandahl, and later, attended the Des Moines Still College of Osteopathy at Des Moines University ('51) where he became a Doctor of Osteopathy. He was a true believer in Jesus Christ and made it his life's mission to share his faith with others. He was a man who not only talked the talk, he walked the walk. Beyond that, what made him the happiest was helping people, and everything golf. He stayed true to his core elements up until his final days, still giving treatments and listening to The Masters on TV. Dr. Purtzer was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ruth Purtzer. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Faye Genevieve; his two sons, Paul (Kathy) Purtzer and Tom Purtzer; his grandchildren, Laura (Kelton), Ashley, Eric, Sarah (J. Alex), Heidi, Julia, Liza, Jay, Jenny, Robin and Juli; and one great-granddaughter, Riley Jean; two brothers, Jean Purtzer of Greenfield, IA., and Dean (Dorian) Purtzer of Jackson, MS; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many treasured friends.
