"Elwood was my best friend throughout our years of growing up in Dassel, Minnesota. We were together as pals almost every day and night until we graduated from high school in 1953, sharing hunting, sports, movies, and social times with our friends. He had a Model-A Ford with a hole in the manifold that transported us everywhere with noise and sparks, and I often jumped off the running board as I approached home. I was best man in his wedding, and I kept a large picture of the two of us on my desk until it faded away. Elwood was very intelligent and imaginative, and when I visited him in Scottsdale a few years ago, I was very impressed with the furniture and art he created. Elwood was a special, one-of-a-kind best friend, and I am saddened by his passing. My most sincere condolences to Rick and other family members."
