In loving memory of

Arlene Jean Wakefield
September 24, 1937 - March 6, 2020

Arlene Jean Wakefield, age 82, passed away Friday, March 6, 2020. She was born in Muskegon, MI on September 24, 1937 to Ellsworth & Violet (Barhite) Greene and married Earl Wakefield on November 5, 1955. She and Earl met each other when they were just 9 years old at the Salvation Army Church and eventually turned into high school sweethearts. She graduated from Muskegon High School in 1955 and in her younger years played baseball on the Muskegon Lassies. Arlene worked at several places during her lifetime. She was a secretary at Witt Buick. She worked as the Playground Supervisor at Nims School. She was a sales associate at The Fashion Bug until retiring, and she was a caretaker for various friends, family and neighbors when they needed help.

She and Earl loved to square dance and were members of Hi Neighbors and were also very involved with the Maycroft Square Tappers organization. They loved to travel everywhere and went to Romania, Russia, Poland, Belgium, Germany, and nearly every state in the United States. Camping at Aloha State Park was always a family favorite for years. She would invite everyone we knew to join us and always made the food for all to enjoy. Arlene was a member of the Union Buyers Club and held various positions in that organization. She was an avid bowler for nearly 60 years and also enjoyed catering special events for friends and family. Family could always count on her making special and unique cards for their birthdays and other holidays. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Arlene will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

To say she will be missed Is an understatement. She will be remembered as a strong and powerful woman who affected all who knew her."

Bob Ostby wrote on Mar 10, 2020:

"Arlene was like a second mother to me, or in my case a third. She shared the name with the woman who adoped me and they were best friends for many years. We traveled together for many years with the Muskegon Square Tappers. We had so much fun. In the early years they bowled together, they took belly dansing classes together. But then stopped for ice crean after because they were over heated from the dancing. I could not count the number of hours or days I have spent with Arlene and her family., because back in the day we were always together. And when I was with her and her family she always made sure I was ok. Oh yeah I'm gonna miss her. Many people will miss her. I love you Arlete#2. Please RIP, Bobby"
