"I am so sorry for your loss. God promises at Revelations 21:4 that one day death will be no more. I hope this brings you and your family comfort at this difficult time."
Derce Camille (Quackenbush) Randolph, 89, passed away at her home in Phoenix, AZ October 29, 2017. Derce was born on June 5, 1928, in Spokane, WA, to Judge Carl and Marion Quackenbush. She attended Stanford University, where she met and married Phoenix-native Victor Randolph, Jr. They moved to Arizona in 1948. Their four daughters recall their mother reading classic children's literature to them on summer afternoons, and studying the works of famous painters. She taught them to sew their own clothes, sent them to cooking classes and mentored them in gardening. She was an avid golfer and participated in a hiking club well into her 60s. Newcomers to her neighborhood may not have known her name, but they recognized the white-haired lady on the bicycle who cleaned 20th Street for more than two decades as part of the City of Phoenix's Adopt-A-Street Program. She was a skilled gardener. Lately, she enjoyed reading Scripture with her daughters and listening to worship music. Derce, who earned a Master's in Education at Arizona State University, taught at Encanto Elementary School for 21 years. She was active in Camp Fire Girls, Girl Scouts of America, and with the Arizona Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marian (Quackenbush) Rushmore. Survivors include daughters Patricia Randolph of Bowling Green, KY; Linda Paech of Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia; Carol Pica of Puyallup, WA; and Kathy Verhoeven of Yorba Linda, CA; one brother, U.S. District Judge Justin Quackenbush of Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Ben Bruni, Joshua Paech, Deondra Harder, Christina Paech, Lauren Slater, Robert Paech, Danielle Denham and Natalie Narayan; and 14 great-grandchildren. "So sorry to hear about Aunt Derce passing. Boy she looks like Grandma, and it doesn't seem like over 30 yrs ago was the last time I saw her. I am proud to say I followed Aunt Derce and Grandma in the education field and still teaching. I have such fond memories of all the cousins in Spokane in the summers of august heat camping, making home made ice cream, all 7 girl cousins staying at Grandma & Judges, Aunt Derce & Judge golfing and many fun family meals with a great game of hearts to follow. My heart is sad and happy - sad from me not knowing Aunt Derce as an adult and happy she is having a competitive game of hearts with mom, dad, Grandma, Aunt Derce and Judge. She has been in my thoughts and love for family. We need a family reunion soon . .. like this summer!! Love you all!! Annette Rushmore"
