Thomas Nelson Beversdorf succumbed to respiratory problems on November 20, 2017, after several months of declining health. God reached down, wrapped his arms around him and said "I want you with me now. I need to end your suffering". Known as Buster in his younger years, Tom was born in Yoakum, TX on January 31, 1954 to Ruth and August Beversdorf. He was preceded in death by his father and is survived by his mother Ruth Beversdorf Weed; sister Deborah Thompson of Yuma, AZ; brothers Scott Beversdorf of Phoenix, AZ and Gregory Beversdorf (Cathy) of Seabrook, TX; his niece Julia Howe (Jason); nephews Clayton Thompson, Andrew Thompson (Lisa), Christopher Beversdorf (Kathrin), Wesley Beversdorf (DeserRai), Jacob, Zackary and Alec Beversdorf; along with six great-nephews and nieces. After graduating from high school, he joined the Army and upon his discharge travelled extensively throughout Europe and ended up living in Alaska for a year. Returning to Arizona he got his Associate in Arts Degree from Glendale Community College and then a Bachelor of Science Degree from Grand Canyon University. Shortly afterwards he began teaching and taught for twenty-two years, mostly at Royal Palm Middle School. Retirement allowed him to pursue his love of carving, restoration and playing the guitar. Immensely talented and known for his gentle spirit, kindness, willing to help others and his wonderful sense of humor, he will be missed by all he touched. "Thomas .....my daughter and I went to your estate sale after your passing. We spoke with your mother and brother. They miss you so much. I bought a water color painting hanging on your wall. We noticed your party wall and we bought some books as well. Thomas that painting hangs in my kitchen and your book from childhood is on our shelf. We wish we could have known you when you were a meat puppet here on earth! I was adopted by a nelson and your mother reminded me of Grandma Ruth. I wanted to stay in the chair and sit in your space. You loved the stars and life itself. I could tell you were an amazing character. Your brother told my daughter a love story about you and a special lady. This was a few years ago now and we still talk about you and we never met. My daughter and I did get to know you though....... Your place was a safe space. I wanted to buy the house.
Wherever your next adventure took you I hope it was as magical as your life. Stay in the light. Btw my daughter wants to know if you like chocolate fudge.
Peace my space travler"

"Tom way back when your little brother, Grey was in my science class. He said I should meet you and so I did. The moment I open my door, there you stood, long curls and a huge smile that won me completely over and do it was the beginning of a long, beautiful courtship and two decades of friendship. We never argued or had a fight. You were sweet, caring, clever, gentle, kind, talented, loving, funny, a little goofy, smart, tenacious, I loved all that you were, and still do. I will cherish all our wonderful memories that also included our families. I will miss you and love you until I leave this earth. You know these tears will continue with in between smiles each and every time I think of you. Ours was a great love story. Come and be my guardian Angel. I'll look for you.????"

"Tom and I were friends for years we met at Moon Valley HS. We fell out of touch when I moved to California years ago. Tom was my friend. He was funny, kind, whimsical, and possibly even a hobbit, maybe a wizard or something close. It's hard to find words but Ruth my prayers are with you and your family. It's just so hard for me to wrap my mind around this. I thought I'd have more time. So sorry I didn't. Tom I LOVE you and will never forget the adventures we shared."

"My heartfelt condolences to Tom's family. He and I were friends, and for a brief time a bit more, for the past 12 years now. I had the absolute pleasure of meeting some of you one family holiday celebration, as well as Scott on a couple of occasions. What you may not know is that when Tom and I met, I was rather reclusive, and it was his kind smile and greeting that encouraged me to venture back out into the world. For that, I will eternally be grateful. Even though long ago we drifted apart because our lives were on very different paths, over the years, he still occasionally dropped by to say hi or to honk as he passed. How I shall greatly miss that. I wrote a piece the day he passed away and I'll leave you with its final lines. All of you are in my prayers::
Even though
LONG ago
We
MOVED on
I know
TOMORROW
I'll awaken
To a
MUTED dawn
With ONE
LESS hue
For today
The WORLD
Lost
The COLOR
Of you
Rest in peace, Tom, and know you are missed."

Always of service to family and friends. Loved his humor and eccentricities. I will miss him as long as my heart beats. Thank you for showing me the moon and stars. Thank you for serenades on cool evenings, strings gently played while singing my favorite songs. He knew them all. Rest in peace now love. Until we meet again. I will always love you."

"Tom and I were sweethearts in high school. We stirred in each other an unbridled sense of adventure that took us to Mardi Gras, a tour of the national parks in the west, across Europe, up to Alaska and finally through Central America. That spirit of adventure lives with me still. I am writing this from South Korea. Tom connected so easily with strangers. And he was a master story teller. We'll al miss his hilarious sense of humor, his creativity and his kindness. Remember, Tom, "It's only toe nails burning...""
