"Greta, You are a great lady. I enjoyed our time together when you and my mother, Elizabeth were roommates in The Beatitudes Healthcare Center. Dosia, I am sorry for your loss."
Born on February 23, 1933, died on Christmas Eve 2017. After graduating from Hamline University, St. Paul, MN she was commissioned to serve under the United Methodist Board of Missions. That Board sent her to the Frontier Nursing Service in Hyden, KY to receive special training as a nurse midwife. From 1958 to 1972, she directed a rural clinic in Stunzabad, Pakistan. Following that adventure-filled experience, she moved to Phoenix. At Arizona State University, she received her MSN plus certification as a family nurse practitioner. Utilizing her skills and compassion, she became the first staff nurse for Hospice of the Valley. The final chapter of her nursing career involved teaching for the ASU College of Nursing focusing on pediatric nursing and physical assessment. Survivors include brother Robert Wiseman, Saskatchewan, Canada; longtime companion Dosia Carlson; kitty Nala; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration of Greta Wiseman's life will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 in the Life Center at Beatitudes Campus, 1610 W. Glendale Ave., Phoenix 85021. "Rest in Peace Greta...I worked with Greta at ASU - first on Tempe campus and then West campus. So many words pop out from her fitting obituary: adventure-she had a zest for life and opportunities to serve, skills and compassion- I remember when she was preparing for serving as dressing nurse on one of her adventures. She took pictures of incoming students and aimed for their optimal nursing experiences. I did not know that she had served in KY as a nurse midwife but she could very well have been working with my OB instructor during my BSN program at Gustavus Adolphus College, her name was Edie Campbell. Greta's life was indeed meaning-filled. I'm so happy to have known her as one of my life's characters. My sympathy to her family."
"The life of Greta Wiseman passed through this world and made it better for so many. Her laughter and smile were shear joy! Her gentle, kind and giving heart could be felt deeply by those she touched. She could set people straight like no other. Her intelligence was remarkable. Thank you God for sending one of your angels. She is missed by the many who love her. May the memories of her and her love and skills continue to light the world by those she touched."
"Dosia, Thanks so much for your phone call. I am so sorry for your loss. Greta was a powerful woman and a wonderful friend. Love and hugs, Sally"

"I'm so sorry for your loss. Greta was one-of-a-kind lady. At Church of the Beatitudes, we enjoyed hearing her stories, especially while she was in Pakistan. She had so many stories and accomplishments. She will be missed."
"How I will miss my friend Greta. The most caring, empathetic, giving person I have known. We never had much time together but I always felt her love and concern, and marveled at her capacity to serve others and give of herself. My heartfelt condolences to her family and those who were lucky enough to share life with her."
"Greta was a wonderful teacher to both students and faculty. When I was new faculty at ASU West , she mentored me when I was developing and teaching Health Assessment for school nurses. She had great sense of humor and was also dedicated to providing the highest quality of teaching."
"so sorry to hear. I did know Greta at ASU --always a kind and compassionate nurse/teacher. Susan Mattson"
"Greta was my pediatric clinical professor at Arizona State University and pediatric assessment faculty when I was studying for school nurse certification. She taught me about bringing joy into the life of hospitalized children, to never waste an alcohol wipe (or any other supply) because "there are places in the world that do not have this luxury." Greta put the fear of God in each nursing student the first day of clinical - you had better be ready to to pass her pop quizzes on pediatric medications. She demonstrated a combination of high expectations for each student with incredible empathy for our patients and each of us as well. I often think of her, now that I am a nursing professor, and do my best emulate the careful combination of high expectations and empathy. Greta Wiseman impacted many, many nursing students and their patients - she will be missed. Gail Petersen Hock (formerly Mell), DNP-c, APRN, PHCNS-BC"
