Selinda Hope Border passed away on January 24, 2018 at the age of 56. She was born December 8, 1961 in Hickory, NC to Laverne and Juanita Hinson who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Glen, daughter Caleigh, brother Shelton Hinson, niece Lillie, and nephew Sam.
Selinda graduated from Middlebury High School in Middlebury, IN. She received her BS and Masters in Science in natural resources from Arizona State University. Selinda became a project manager in the Arizona Department of Water Resources. She loved her job, and the opportunities it provided to get out into nature. One of those opportunities was to raft down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon while auditing evasive plant species. She even hiked out of the canyon, another accomplishment she was proud of.
When Caleigh was born she decided to become a stay at home mom. This was a journey she so wanted to travel, but it was cut short by a diagnosis of early onset Alzheimers at the age of 48. Selinda and her family were part of a BBC documentary based on the challenges faced by caregivers when a family member is diagnosed. Selinda was adamant about doing the documentary. She felt the public needed to be aware this horrible disease was not confined to the elderly alone.
Selinda was a fun, energetic, friendly and caring woman and is sorely missed by all who came across her path.

"I watched the bbc documentary recently and selindas story really touched me. It bought home just how heartbreaking this disease is. The most heartbreaking point in the documentary was a moment of clarity from Selinda when posed with the prospect of not being able to watching her daughter grow up. My condolences, love and thoughts go out to the family."

"After watching the documentary I felt compelled to research how you guys were doing. I just got home after visiting my grandparents in England, they are in their mid nineties. Both have different forms of dementia, my grandad has been away with the fairies for years, can no longer support his own body weight. My Brother is one of a team of primary carers, they are still in their own home, Nanna is just starring to get to the point that she takes a while to recognise me. She gets on a loop, saying the same thing over and over....it's so sad. I cried watching the footage of you and your wife and daughter....she was such a beautiful lady and you were so lovely together. I just needed to reach out to you Brother so that you know other people are going through the same torment and have massive empathy for you. Your daughter is beautiful and the spitting image of your wife. Big love from Jersey in the Channel Islands United Kingdom mate."

"To Glenn and Caleigh. Selinda and yourselves seemed like such nice positive people in the documentary, the sort of folk everyone would want to be friends or neighbours with. I hope the positive energy being reflected back to you now that you have come to the end of the road of dementia will carry you through the rest of your lives. I too am on this dementia Road with my father so understand the heartbreak. Take care."

It's so sad that Selinda had gone, but I hope her husband and daughter know how many lives around the world were touched by their story and the amazing courage to go on in the face of such a horrible disease. I am on palliative care for end stage hydrocephalus, and all these stories give me a guiding light to a better place that is free from these things that we can only fight add hard as we can, for as long as we can.
