"I?m so sorry to hear of Dorothy?s passing. I?ve visited with her many times at Suzanne and Darryl?s place. She was sweet, had a cool sense of humor, and always smiled. My warmest wishes and condolences to all of you."
Our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Dorothy L. Brown passed away on December 15, 2018 in Phoenix, AZ. She was born Dorothy Lois Peirce, daughter of Donald Durand "Doc" Peirce and Lois Edith (Green) Peirce on March 28, 1935 in New Castle, PA.
Dorothy was raised in Clarion, PA with her younger sister, Mary. After graduating high school, she attended college and graduated from Hood College in Frederick, MD with a degree in Home Economics. Dorothy married Russell K. Brown in 1959 with whom she had six children. In 1971, Dorothy moved with her children to Phoenix to raise them near her sister's family, where she took a job with the State of Arizona from which she retired in 1994. Mom was a devoted mother and set an example by the life she lived of honesty, integrity, and putting others needs before her own. She was a committed Christian, who most recently attended New Life Church in Peoria.
Dorothy was a musician, singing and playing piano, an avid reader, card player, animal lover, lifelong learner and she loved to travel in her younger days. Dorothy was a resident of Desert Winds Retirement Community in Peoria where she made a close group of friends and was always ready to welcome a new resident to the community. One of the highlights of her day was lunchtime with Nancy, King David, and other friends at Desert Winds. In that respect, Dorothy was reminiscent of her father, Grandpa Don.
Mom was well loved and will be deeply missed by her children: Andy (JoAnne) Brown, Pam (Doug) Robinson, Suzanne (Darryl) Gross, Evelyn Skelton, Margaret (Chris) Grasso, Jim (Kimm) Brown; grandchildren Jason (Shelly) Brown, Dave Robinson, Holly and Scott Gross, Chris (Jaclyn) Gross, Colby and Emma Skelton, Sarah Grasso (Drew Uphoff, fiancé), Samantha Grasso, Toni (Tucker) Kidd, Keith (Rachel) Legere, Megan Legere, Matt and Mark Brown; great-grandchildren Andrew, Addison, and Jamison Brown, Landyn Legere, and John Lawrence Davis; her sister and brother-in-law Mary & Bob Eustice; nieces and nephews; and many friends to whom we are indebted for their love and care for our mother. She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter Amanda Marie Brown; and son-in-law Troy Lynn Skelton; and her childhood friend, Janet Miller.
We love you, Mom, and will miss you dearly. We look forward to being with you again in the presence of God's glory.
A Celebration of Life service for Dorothy will be held at 1:00PM Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Northwest Community Church, 16615 N. 43rd Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85053. Reception to follow.
