Marie A. News (nee Cecchetto/Chicetto)


Born July 8, 1924 in Camden NJ.

Marie was a lifelong resident of Runnemede NJ, most recently residing in Voorhees NJ.


She was predeceased by her dearly beloved husband of 56 years, Charles H. News, and by six of her seven siblings: Alfred, Phillip, Louise, Chester, Ralph and Terry. She is the dear sister of Kathy Potter of Los Angeles, California


Marie was the devoted mother of Charlene Steinmetz and her husband George of Berlin NJ, and Noreen Saggese of Sewell, NJ.

She was the loving grandmother of Christine O'Hearn and her husband Robert; William McCall and his wife Kristin; and Diana and Emily Saggese. Also the loving great-grandmother of Jessica and Bobby O'Hearn; Hunter, Spencer, and Brooke McCall. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.


Marie's greatest joy was raising her family. She was generous, fun-loving and spirited. Her kindness is the quality most mentioned by all who knew her. She loved music and enjoyed singing. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards with her brothers, sewing, crocheting, and other needle work. Marie was active in the PTA of the Runnemede Public Schools, serving as Vice-President for several years. She was also a troop leader for the Girl Scouts of America for eight years.


Marie was employed at Radio Condenser Company in Camden NJ during World War II. She was an active participant in the USO activities for soldiers, making food, rolling bandages, and collecting items that could be repurposed for use during the war years.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing from 9:45 to 10:45am Wednesday morning at St. John's Episcopal Church, Chews Landing. Funeral Service 11am. Interment Harleigh Cemetery, Camden.


In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made in Marie's memory to: St John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 1704 Old Black Horse Pike, Chews Landing, NJ 08012.
