Dorothy S. Johnston
March 18, 1926 - February 18, 2011

Dorothy (Grammie) Solliday Johnston, on February 18, 2011 at Cooper University Hospital, quietly and peacefully with her two proud and loving sons at her bedside.


She is now at peace with her loving husband William Richard (Dick) Johnston. She was born in North Wales, March 18, 1926 to Uriah Strause and Elizabeth Denner Solliday. She graduated from North Wales High School and resided in Sellersville, PA. In 1945 she met William Johnston at a USO dance, and upon his return from service in Guam during WWII, they were married on July 5, 1946 and resided in Tampa, Fla., Woodbury and finally settling in West Collingswood where she was a resident for 49 years. She is remembered by her family as a charitable and loving person, always finding it in her heart to assist those in need. Her constant chatter and love of food were legendary and a welcome trait at gatherings of friends and family. She was fiercely independent, and never hesitated to speak her mind. She was a life long collector of glass clowns.


Devoted mother of Richard Lawrence Johnston and his wife Deborah Calkin of Brookline, NH, and John Stephen Johnston and his wife Kathleen Marie of Laurel Springs. Loving grammie of Christopher Trevor, Timothy (Allyson), Kevin (Donna), Andrew, and Ashley. Great-grandmom of Trevor and Ryan. Step-grandmother of Maxwell Cole and Tyler James Calkin. Dear sister of Betty Fuller, John Solliday (Lillian), and the late Robert Nelson Solliday. Also survived by her best friends John and Joanne Botley of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Mildred Wolfrum of Collingswood, along with many cousins.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing from 10am to 12noon Thursday morning at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE.


Funeral Service 12noon at the funeral home.


Interment Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill.
