January 26, 1941 - June 30, 2014

Thomas M. Mitchell, Sr., on June 30, 2014, of Bellmawr. Age 73. Loving husband of Joan (nee Lewandowski) for 53 years. Devoted father of Thomas Jr. (Rita), Andrea Hanna (Mark), Joseph (Joanne) and the late Paul Mitchell. Loving grandfather of Marc, Meghan, Joshua, Kaylee, Tyler, Justin, Erika, and Lars. Great Grandfather of Joshua James. Dear brother of Edward (Maryann), Andrew Jr. (Dorothy), John (Joan), Pelagia Ferguson (Ron), Michael (Kathy), Robert, Anthony, Nancy Martino, Theresa Maiorano (Larry), and the late Frances Heintz-Wise. Dear son of the late Andrew Sr., and Anna Mitchell. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.


Tom was a former president of Bellmawr Baseball and former commissioner of Babe Ruth Baseball. He was a member of IAABO Board 34 Basketball Officials, Al Carino Boys Basketball Club, and the Independent Umpires Association.


Tom was a former Treasurer and Councilman for the Borough of Bellmawr and an active member of St. Joachim Parish, Annunciation BVM Church for many years.


Tom received the following awards: Gold Lifetime Membership to Bellmawr Baseball, Umpire of the Year from Independent Umpires Association, Al Carino Boys' Basketball Hall of Fame, Mid-Atlantic Babe Ruth Hall of Fame, Mike Lazanoff Award from IAABO Board 34 Basketball Officials, Distinguished Service to Citizens of the County Proclamation from Camden County Board of Freeholders, and the Medal for Meritorious Service for the Diocese of Camden.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing Sunday evening from 7 to 9pm at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE.


There will also be a viewing Monday morning from 8:45am to 9:45am at St. Joachim Parish, Annunciation BVM Church, 601 West Browning Road, Bellmawr 08031.


Funeral Mass 10am Monday in the church. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery, Chews Landing.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's name to St. Jude's Children's Research, Memorial & Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
