Steven Charles Denton
Steven Charles Denton of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away 02/13/2020, aged 68 years old, birth on 03/13/1951. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Catherine Burkhart Denton, his beloved pets Harley the Tabby Cat, and Jackson the West Highland White Terrier. He is also survived by his brothers Gregory C. Denton, Douglas P. Denton, Bradley L. Denton wife Sherrilee, cherished nephews Colby, Cody and Chad, stepmother Connie Mae VerHoef Denton and beloved cousins.
Steve was proud to be an alumnus, of Wentworth Military Academy, in Lexington, Missouri. He attended there from 1966 to 1971. He served with honors in the military and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal for his duty. He carried the mantle for a Navy Chaplain and continued to honor his military heritage life long, serving in a consultant capacity for military programs and tactical gear. He was instrumental in developing a program within the Military Moral Recreation department on the Army Base in Leavenworth, Kansas in 2008 serving as a liaison between civilian outlets and active military. In civilian life he continued to serve privately ministering to homeless veterans and remained active with veteran's biker groups. Steve always credited his church elders with bringing him up to have faith in a higher power. I understand his beloved Grandmother, Catherine Denton was instrumental early in his life to ignite this desire within him.
An avid sportsman, he played semi-professional football with the Newton Nite Hawks know as Steven "Bucky" Denton, in Iowa his home state between 1977 to 1980. He was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in Dayton, Ohio with the class of "2013". He excelled in sports and parleyed his sports career with the U. S. Rugby Confederation at Club/National side for fifteen years.
Steve was a connoisseur of life and observed an honored tradition of preserving the earth. His knack for story telling kept family memories alive for generations. He was playful and had a song in his heart that filled the air with love songs in his beautiful tenor singing voice. He is singing with Angels now...
An online memorial service will be held by Thunderbird West Community of Christ Church on Saturday, June 6th, 2020 at 10:30am.
A virtual link will be provided prior to the date for those unable to travel or attend in light of Coronavirus restrictions. The Celebration of Life following the service will be at our home, Steve and Mary Denton, 4811 E Bluefield Ave, Scottsdale, Arizona 85254, #0104.
A private interment will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Phoenix Rescue Mission.org in memory of Steven Charles Denton.
