Daryl "Barney" Paul Dillon, 94, of Hampton, Iowa, died of double pneumonia at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City on March 17, 2020. He had a good, long life.

Daryl was born on August 27, 1925, to Maurice and Francis Dillon. He graduated from Belmond High School, class of 1943. Daryl was drafted into the United States Navy on October 24, 1943, and served until May of 1946. He was united in marriage to Mildred Wilson on September 27, 1952. Daryl worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until 1984, retiring after 31 years. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hampton for the majority of his life.

Daryl loved being with his family and was the 'King of the Grill' at family gatherings. He was an expert at making pancakes and loved sharing his talents with his grandchildren on Sundays after church. Daryl was an avid reader. He loved duck hunting and fishing; even crafting his own lures and sinkers in his basement workshop. He had a big sweet tooth and would hide his chocolate from everyone else. Daryl and Mildred enjoyed travelling when they weren't at their summer home in Guttenberg. He was a true Irishman, enjoying a good joke and Crown Royal Whiskey.

Daryl is survived by his son Tim (Kathy) of Elkader; daughter Debbie McDonald of Connecticut; son Patrick (Dollie) of Hampton; brother Mike of Thornton; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; as well as many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Francis, wife Mildred, brother Patrick and sister Margaret.

"Dear Dillon family...what awesome parents you were blessed with! We were saddened to hear of your Dad's passing but also smile in remembering him and his laugh and fun personality! When our vacations took us to Iowa to see Aunt Claire and Uncle Dale we always shared visits in Hampton with Mildred and Barney. They seemed like family too! I think you, Tim and your family and you, Deb came East once and visited at my parent's home. May God bless you all. It truly is a blessing that our memories of loved ones have a special place in our hearts. Sue and Jerry Givan, Duke Center. PA. givansuzanne@gmail.com "
