In loving memory of

Larry Edward Meyer
June 19, 1941 - March 19, 2020

Larry Edward Meyer, 78, of Hampton, died peacefully at home Thursday, March 19, 2020. Services have been postponed due to recent concerns of the coronavirus pandemic.

Larry was born June 19, 1941, the first son of Harry and Ruth Meyer, in Hampton, Iowa. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1959 and spent the following year as a welder for Chamberlain Trailers.

He was united in marriage to Marlys J. Held on August 5, 1961. They both attended Iowa State University and lived in Ames until the opportunity arose to farm the maternal family farm. Together, they built their future on the farm south of Geneva. Two children blessed this marriage. After retirement they moved to Hampton, Iowa, in 2016.

Larry loved to be outdoors--enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting and all kinds of sports. He was a charter member of the Franklin County Pheasants Forever, and was also a former member of the Franklin County Fair Board and the Franklin County Soil Conservation Board. He was a member of the Geneva United Methodist Church. Upon retirement, he and Marlys enjoyed 13 years of Arizona sunshine, wintering in the Mesa and Apache Junction area.

Larry had an unforgettable sense of humor and he made everything just a little bit more fun. He was never shy about sharing a hug. We will not forget his amazing optimism, zest for life and love for his family.

Larry is survived and will be truly missed by his wife; daughter, Janelle (Bradley) McCalla of Waverly, Iowa, and four grandchildren; Brett (Maddie) McCalla of New Hartford, Iowa, Emily McCalla of Waverly, Iowa, Sean and Ella Meyer and their mother, Keri Meyer, of Johnston, Iowa. Also still living are his brother Lyle (Judy) Meyer; one uncle, Robert (Venita) Bruns; three sisters-in-law, Margery (Carl) Miller, Lois (Leonard) Koch and Elma Kay (Neil) Emmons.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his son, Steven Meyer.
