In loving memory of

Monte P. Solverson
December 31, 1949 - April 8, 2020

Monte Solverson of Stoughton, WI passed away peacefully on April 8, 2020 at his home. He was born on December 31, 1949 in Viroqua, the son of Bud and Emily Solverson.

Monte (Putter) lived a full and interesting life. He was a special operations officer for the Madison Police Department and a sheriff at Snow Mass, CO. He co-owned the Buckboard Inn in the Willow Flowage area where he was known for his delicious prime rib dinners. He loved, and was loved by, this northern Wisconsin community which he served by starting a First Responders program and serving on the fire department. Monte travelled the country as a tour bus driver for Badger Bus. He retired in 2017 as an armored truck driver for Loomis Armor. Monte was known as a lover of dogs, driver extraordinaire, cooker of great meals, and putterer (thus his nickname, Putter) of engines. He enjoyed exploring back roads, fishing, hunting, a good game of cribbage, and camping. He was a cowboy at heart.

Monte was dearly loved and will be missed by his sisters and their families. He is survived by his sisters Margie (Jim) Hesson, Peg (Stan) Jones, Pat (Gary) Witkowski; nieces and nephews; special aunts Odella Burnard and Lois Catrambone; and cousins.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

"So sorry to hear of my friend Monte "Putter"! What a full life you had and did so much good with it. You always were a kind hearted soul as I remember in our Cowboy/Cowgirl days while young and a friendship that has lasted all these years. I am so glad you made it to one of our class reunions (45th I think) and I was able to give you a hug. Your friend Kate!"

David McIntosh wrote on Apr 13, 2020:

"From his photo, I can see that Monte remained well preserved throughout his 70 year life. Like Jim Hanson, we were VHS Class of '68 classmates. I remember Monte being quiet & well behaved in school & having good looking sisters. Not sure our paths crossed after high school, but I enjoyed reading the tributes and an interesting life well lived. I wished we could have shared our experiences with one another. May God give you comfort & peace, while the family grieves their loss. Mac"
