Harriett LaVonne (Taylor) Corbin was born on March 12, 1939 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Harriett was the eldest daughter of 13 children, born to Harry Taylor and Johnnie V. White Taylor.
Harriett attended Indianapolis Puplic Schools and worked as a clerk at Woolworth Department Store as a teenager. She met her sweetheart Cornelius Corbin. The courtship resulted in a marriage of 63 years. Harriett and Cornelius were married on February 23, 1957. The couple had 7 children born out of their union. As a military wife, Harriett traveled the US and Europe meeting people from different countries and cultures, developing and nurturing lifelong friendships around the globe.
Harriett accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young adult and began giving her life to serving the Lord. She served as a Sunday school teacher for many years and soon became a favorite when she began baking personalized birthday cakes for her students. Harriett enjoyed sharing her faith while hosting bible studies, prayer meetings, and even Tupperware parties.
Harriett was most at home in her kitchen, where she enjoyed cooking and baking for those she loved. Her meals were prepared with love and attention to detail. Holidays were her moment to shine, and wow the palate with a taste explosion. Harriett was an exceptional hostess and lived to make others happy by sharing her gift for cooking and baking.
Harriett enjoyed a career as a Certified Nurse Assistant and Home Health Care Assistant. Her heart for serving others, her compassion and kindness made her a perfect fit for the career. She gave her very best to her patient's and treated them all like family.
Harriett was a devoted and loving wife mother and grandmother/great-grandmother who will live on in the hearts of her family. Each cake, pie, and loaf of bread she baked will forever be remembered as a hug, a kiss, a sweet whisper of her love.
Harriett departed this life on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at the age of 81. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Johnnie V. Taylor, 6 siblings, Anthony St. John Taylor, Pagan Taylor, Darrell White, Harry Michael Taylor, Phillip Taylor and Gregory Scott Taylor. She is survived by her husband Cornelius Corbin, Sons; Cornelius Corbin, Jr., Tyrone Corbin; daughters, Nita Corbin, Gayola(Oren)Killebrew, Brigitte Todd, Kimberly Howard and Sylvia Corbin. Sister; Stephanie Carter, Brothers; Travis Taylor, Dennis(Sherrie)Taylor, Graylynn Taylor, Johnny Taylor, Gaines Taylor; Grandchildren; Elaine Corbin, Brian(Nakeesha)Lyons, Anthony Corbin, Torrey Howard, Jacob Rent, Danika Howard, Victoria Todd, Mercedes Corbin, Daphaney Howard, Ayana Killebrew, Taylor Todd, Isaiah Corbin, Trysten Howard, Clarissa Todd, AH'Nye Corbin, Maximus Todd, Sage Howard; Sister-in-law; Edith Corbin and host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
