Marilyn D. Hunter, 70, of Montrose, Iowa, passed away at 2:23 pm, Friday, May 1, 2020, at her home.
Marilyn was born at Ft. Madison, Iowa, January 1, 1950, the daughter of David A. and Lois Bergthold Young. She graduated from Central Lee High School in 1968 and attended Southeastern Community College in Keokuk and in 1970 received her Associate Degree. She was united in marriage to Lawrence "Dean" Hunter on July 25, 1970. He preceded her in death on August 24, 1998. Montrose was her home all her life although she wintered in Texas for the past few years. She was a homemaker but worked as insurance clerk at Graham Hospital before Karen was born in 1972. More recently she drove the SEI bus. She was a member of Montrose United Methodist Church and had attended Joy Baptist Church in Ft. Madison.
She had a love for horses and rode a lot enjoying nature. She rode across Iowa with the Mormon Trail Ride, and drove a team of horses or rode 371 miles from Okgala, Nebraska, to Casper, Wyoming, camping out at night. She loved to travel and saw many states on the U.S, including Alaska and Hawaii. Her love of travel led her to driving the C-bus for patients and she thoroughly enjoyed it.
She had a deep love for her grandkids, Adam, Aaron and Anthony.
She is survived by a son, Jerry Hunter of Ft. Madison, Iowa; grandchildren, Adam, Aaron and Anthony Barnes; son-in-law Mike Barnes; and her companion, Lewis Briggs.
An addition to her husband, Dean, she was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Karen Barnes, and her brother, Daryl Young.
Graveside services will be at Montrose Cemetery at 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at Montrose Cemetery. Due to COVID-19, a celebration of Marilyn's life will be at a later date.
Friends may stop at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 917 Blondeau Street Tuesday, May 5, 2020, between 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM to sign her book.

"I want to express to Jerry, the 3 grandsons and Lewis, how very sorry I am that you have lost Marilyn to this dreaded disease! But, oh, what an attitude she had! Everytime I talked to her, she tried to be as positive as she could! I so admired her love for life and she was so in love with her family and I know she was very thankful when Lewis came into her life. She was very sad when she lost her horse who had taken her many miles, but the lose of her husband and daughter was so very painful! Her faith she very much relied on! God bless you, Marilyn! Two of my favorite memories are the many times I got to sit with her at the MuleFest in Kahoka and she would come and hear me sing very often no matter where it was, if she knew about it.
