William Monroe
September 21, 1925 - May 25, 2010
William A. "Bill" Monroe, 84, of Webster City, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held
at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Foster Chapel, with Pastor Ray Artrip
officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation
will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m.
to 8:00 p.m. Monday and prior to the service on Tuesday at the
funeral home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191.
William Arnold Monroe, son of Arnold and Myrtle Porter
Monroe, was born September 21, 1925 at the family farm south of
Webster City. He received his education in the Webster City
school system, graduating from Lincoln High in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army -- Quartermaster Corp from 1951 to 1953, he also
was in the U.S. Army Reserves for 4 years. On July 14, 1953, he
married the love of his life, Adria Mae Bottorff at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
The couple resided in Webster City, then in 1956 moved to a farm west of Webster City. They were married for almost 32 years before Adria lost her battle to cancer on July 1, 1985. For over 22 years Bill balanced working at Beams (now Electrolux), farming, and raising a family. He continued to farm until his retirement in 2005, spending his life dedicated to the land. Bill considered his greatest accomplishment to be his family, with whom he instilled the values of hard work, honesty and fairness.
Bill is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law; Yvonne and Dan Nilles, Cheri Daya, Gina and Marc Reinsel, all of Webster City; Michelle and Mark Pearson of Hubbard, grandchildren; Lindsay McCormick, Joshua VanLangen, Nicholas Pearson, Brittany Pearson, and Anjali Daya, great-grandchildren; William Max McCormick, Elizabeth VanLangen and Aubree VanLangen, brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Valerie Monroe, brother-in-law, Kenneth Bottorff, all of Webster City, several nieces and nephews, and friend Sandy Dingman.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a member of Elmo Lodge # 62 -- I.O.O.F. of Webster City, American Legion Post # 191, a Charter member of Isaac Walton, Moose Lodge 735, and United Auto Workers Local # 442. William was an avid collector and enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, and bowling. Many memories were made watching car races, traveling, and attending the Iowa State Fair.
We will miss Dad's words of wisdom and the way his blue eyes twinkled with love for all of us.
