Violet Jean Spencer, age 83 of Newton, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Accura Healthcare of Newton West. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The daughter of Glenn and Thelma Rose (Robson) Spencer, Violet was born on September 9, 1936 in Newton, Iowa. Violet was raised and lived in Newton her entire life. She loved collecting dolls and sewing clothes for them. She also enjoyed doing many crafts, going to garage sales with the group, the Statler Brothers, country music, the color purple and her cat "Jeannie." Violet visited her sister, Betty regularly and remained close their whole life. Birthday's and Christmas was a special time for Violet. It always brought a smile to her face when you would stop by or bring her family pictures. She worked at Progress Industries, working at a variety of sub contract jobs.
Those left to honor her memory include two sisters, Betty Mae of Newton and Barbara of Maize, Kansas; two brothers, Jerry (Donna) of Des Moines and Larry (JoAnn) of Alta, Iowa and her many nephews, nieces and friends at Optimae. She was preceded in death by her Parents. Grandparents, a brother, Harry Spencer, a sister-in-law, Louise Spencer and a brother-in-law, Rev. Ron Swedberg.
The family would like to thank everyone at Progress Industries, Optimae and Accura West for the many years of support, and being by Violet's side to mentor her, love her, caring for her and so many acts of kindness.
