"Even though I?m very late to this I wanted to share my brief time meeting with Mr Diebel. My father and I met John on a holiday, cruising the Nordic fjords, where he was one of our regular companions for dinner. In this short week we grew very fond of John. Spending time with him over dinner, chatting about music and all sorts of topics quickly became one of the highlights of our traveling days. John introduced me as a young man to the many great American songwriters he admired so much, and in doing so broadened my outlook on music vastly. He even committed to sending me all sorts of documentation and articles on these composers by snail mail afterwards, for which I?ll be forever grateful. In fact it was seeing an amazing performance of Gershwin?s Rhapsody in Blue which prompted me to see if I could find any sign of John online. Leading me here. Thank you John for our brief but meaningful encounter. And belated condolences and well wishes to his family. Rest peacefully John. -William and Firmin Sleurs from Belgium"

"I am so sad to hear this news about John Diebel. As so many others in GPT, I worked numerous shows with him over the years -- in the pit, or as music director ... especially "The Boyfriend" that John directed and I music directed, along with Marie Reinman who was the vocal director. Additionally, I music directed several shows in which he was a cast member. So easy to get along with was John, so agreeable, so prepared, so knowledgeable about music. And a wonderful storyteller he was with a myriad of material and experience to draw from. I will miss him terribly and regret not having connected with him in recent years. Jay Shaheen "
