July 19, 1931 - May 14, 2020

ARIZONA - Ruth Montgomery age 88, after many years of trials & tribulations, she slept into the arms of the creator Our Father God on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at 8:50am at Hospice of The Valley in Surprise, AZ. She was born to the late Rev. Richard Gates & the late Lizzie Gates on July 19, 1931 in Round Pond/Whitmore, Arkansas.

RUTH was a God Fearing woman, she received the Lord and baptized by her father Rev. Gates at the age of 10. The greatest thought her mind grasped was her accountability to the Almighty God. She loved the Lord and cherished each day she spent in prayer and reflections of his goodness, greatness, and grace. She was a faithful and longtime member of Galilee Baptist Church in Gary, IN until she moved to Phoenix, Arizona.

RUTH was the loving wife to the late Frank G. Montgomery, loving mother of 6, loving grandmother to 16 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren. Ruth attended Garret Grove Elementary and Wheatly High School in Arkansas. She received her Secretary Certification from Hammond Business College, Nursing Assistant Certification from Phoenix Baptist Hospital and Medical Center and Hospital Unit Secretary Diploma from Southwestern Medical Society Academy. She held various positions during her tenure of many years.

RUTH enjoyed life to its fullest. She loved cooking, baking, good food, shopping and music. However, the unconditional and irreplaceable love for her children and grandchildren, compassion, and unweaving commitment to help anyone in need, took top priority.

RUTH was preceded in death by parents Rev. Richard & Lizzie Gates; husband, Frank Montgomery; three brothers, Joe Gates, Richard Gates & Harvey Gates; one sister, Susie Gadson; one son, Dennis Montgomery.

Her memory will be cherished by five children, Ruby (Israel) Warren of Gary, IN; Stanley (JoAnn) Bolden of Glendale, AZ; Sylvia Montgomery of Phoenix, AZ; Sherrie Montgomery of Gary, IN; and Jacqueline Montgomery of Gary, IN. 15 Grandchildren, Christina Lewis of Glendale, AZ; Tameka Warren of Gary, IN; Shannon Bolden of Phoenix, AZ; Aja Montgomery of Milwaukee, WI; Richard Montgomery of Phoenix, AZ; Latoya (Andre) Wells of Atlanta, GA; Taron Montgomery of Gary, IN; Latasha Montgomery of Gary, IN; Tarrence Montgomery of Gary, IN; Keaira Montgomery of Gary, IN.; Timothy Holder of Kansas City, MO; Jermod Holder of Gary, IN; Terrell Parker of Gary, IN; Latonya Montgomery of Gary, IN; Tyesha Montgomery of Gary, IN; 19 Great Grandchildren; 1 brother, Robert Gates of Brinkley, AR, and 9 sisters, Ethel Privett of Wheatley, AR, Lois January of North Chicago, IL, Lillie Sly of Scottsdale, AZ, Elizabeth Hutchinson of Waukegan, IL, Christine Pruiett, Bernice Farmer, and Linda Carr, all of Moro, AR, Annie Harris of Ravenna, OH, and Mary Thomas of Arkadelphia, AR. and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be at Hansen Mortuaries 8314 N. 7th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85020, on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 from 1pm - 3pm. Funeral Services will be at Branscumb Chapel, 911 N. Main St., Brinkley, Arkansas on Friday, May 22, 2020 at 11am. Pastor Stephen Perry will be officiating.
