Private family services will be held with burial in the Dumont Cemetery. The Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home of Dumont is assisting DeWayne's family.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions and having a private service, DeWayne's family is inviting relatives and friends to line their vehicles along Pine Street at 10:15 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2020, all facing south using both sides of the street, as the funeral procession enters the Dumont Cemetery via the south gate. Wave and honk your horns for DeWayne and his family as a way to show your respects all while maintaining social distancing.


DeWayne Edwin Shear, 87, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2020, in Dumont. He was born October 4, 1932, to Kenneth and Zola (Judy) Shear.

DeWayne graduated from Dumont High School, class of 1950. He was united in marriage to Beulah Irene Davis on November 9, 1952, at the Aredale Methodist Church. DeWayne served his country in the United States Navy for four years. He owned and operated Shear Elevator from 1972 until 2010. DeWayne was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont, El Kahir Shrine, Masonic Lodge Vulcan #498 and the Dumont American Legion. He enjoyed attending dog races with Beulah and gambling, especially slot machines and loved spending time with his family and friends.

DeWayne, the "Grain King", is survived by his sons; Danny (Cindy) Shear, Dennis (Linda) Shear and David (Joan) Shear, all of Dumont; grandchildren Cody (Cassy) Shear of Dumont, Kallie Shear of Bondurant, Kylie Shear of Bondurant, Brittany (Dave) Gronewold of Dumont, Jessica (Troy) Hambly of Hampton, Monty (Kiley) Shear of Allison and Crystol (Benji) Ufford of Dumont; great-grandchildren Ellis, Lily, Hale, Aubree, Adelee, Ainslee, Michaela, Brycen, Jarrett and Alivia; and sister Janelle (Larry) Stock of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beulah Shear and sister SueAnn Campbell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Shear family, P.O. Box 403, Hampton, Iowa, 50441.
