Her Story

Sylvia Diane Rodgers began her earthly journey on December 11, 1951 in Houston, Texas to Robert Clinton Rodgers and Bernice Wilson Rodgers. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Canaan Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas. Sylvia grew up in the Harrisburg area and attended public schools in the Houston Independent School District.

Sylvia and James Hudson were married in 1968. God blessed Sylvia with two children, Yvonne and Samuel Hudson. She loved them both with all her heart. Sylvia took great pride in being a grandmother and great grandmother. Sylvia never met a stranger and was loved by all in the Harrisburg-Smith Addition Community.

Several years ago Sylvia became paralyzed from the waist down. Although she was immobile, she never lost her optimism and warming smile.

Sylvia leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter Yvonne Hudson and her husband John Thomas; eight grandchildren Darrion Hudson, Joseph Hudson, Zakariah Gambrell, Jeremiah Gambrell, Leroy Gambrell, LaRoychelle Gambrell, Tricina Gambrell, Diamoneisha Harris; 17 great-grandchildren; sister Juanita Wilson; sister-in-law Regina Wade Rodgers; Aunts: Annie Ray Moore and Bertha Rodgers, Uncles: Matthew Wilson and Travis Wilson; great aunt: Agnes Green.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Clinton Rodgers and Bernice Wilson Tucker; stepfather: Thurston Tucker; husband: James Hudson; son: Samuel Lee Hudson, two sisters: Dale Elaine Nickson, Hedy Nadine Rogers and one brother: Robert James Rodgers.
