Darleen Shirley Mensing, 95, of Rochester, Minnesota died on Friday, June 12, 2020 at the Season's Hospice House in Rochester.
Darleen was born on June 20, 1924 to Harold and Freda (Kummer) Freeman in rural Spring Valley, MN. After the death of her two brothers, the family moved to California where she spent her childhood. The family later returned to Spring Valley.
Darleen graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1942. She was employed at the Kahler Hotel until her marriage to Robert Alvin Mensing of Pine Island following his service in the Army. They were married on June 1, 1947 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spring Valley and enjoyed 65 years together. The couple had four children; Linda, Candace, Gareth and Wendy. She returned to Rochester Community College to take secretarial courses at the age of 50 and later was employed by Swan, Pougiales and Gullikson Law Firm as a legal secretary.
Darleen was blessed with grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would love to make them cookies, homemade noodles and sticky buns. As a family, they loved camping at National parks and the couple square danced for many years.
She is survived by her children; Linda (James) Tripplett of Amherst, MA, Gareth (Sharon) Mensing of Phoenix, AZ, Candace Mensing of Rochester, MN, and Wendy (Wayne) Mehrkens of Saint Charles, MN; grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; three brothers, Raymond, Donovan, and an infant brother.
Visitation will be held 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes 5421 Royal Place NW Rochester, MN. Graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm at Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery in Spring Valley, MN.
Memorials are preferred to Season's Hospice.
