Darrell G. Van Wyk
February 7, 1934 - June 17, 2020

Darrell G. Van Wyk, age 86 of Monroe, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, June 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 21, 2020 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. The son of Gerritt and Cora (Vander Leest) Van Wyk, Darrell was born on February 7, 1934 in Marion County, Iowa. On March 4, 1955, he was united in marriage to Jo Ann Willemsen in Pella. Darrell was inducted into the United States Army in 1956. He and Jo Ann lived in Tacoma, Washington while Darrell was stationed there. Later, he spent 15 months serving in Germany. Darrell was a member of the Otley Reformed Church and the Monroe United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Newton Moose Lodge. His early years were spent farming near Monroe and in 1972 Darrell and Jo Ann purchased the family farm where they were currently residing. After retirement Darrell enjoyed woodworking, flea markets, and repurposing things into lawn decorations. Darrell and Jo Ann enjoyed many hours and made countless friends country dancing.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Jo Ann; three children, Darla (Phil) German, Danna (David) Wood and Darwin (Lori) Van Wyk; six grandchildren, Megan (Justin) Bisom, Madison (Greg) Ganfield, Tanner (Caitlyn) Wood, Lindsey (Conner) Bigg, Ashley (Tom) Drake and Austin (Katy) Van Wyk; 17 great grandchildren; two sisters, LaVonne (Wilfred) Brouwer and Shirley (Dwight) Van Wyngarden and two sisters-in-law, Gloria Van Wyk and Jennie Jo Pippel. Preceding Darrell in death were his parents, a brother, Earl and a granddaughter, Kelly Jo.
