Charles "Chip" Justin Rosenson passed away at age 66 on Monday, June 22, 2020 at Windsor Senior Living in Dallas, Texas.

Chip was born on November 28, 1953 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Leonard Rosenson and Marilyn Rosenson (née Kaffie). He moved to Dallas as a young adult and remained there for the duration of his life. He was a lifelong student and lover of books. Chip was known for his perennial and effusive expressions of gratitude, as well as his huge heart in caring about others. Deeply committed to his Jewish faith, Chip chanted Torah and led worship services throughout the city. He was a dedicated member of the Dallas Jewish community, and his loss will be felt by all those who witnessed his cantillation. Chip was a devoted advocate for robust mental healthcare. He trained police officers on how to address the needs of the mentally ill in crisis.

Chip is survived by his mother, Marilyn Rosenson; sister, Celia Strickler and her husband; brother, Malcolm "Doc" Rosenson and his wife; nieces: Betty Vine, Sally Heiman, and Miriam Morse; nephews: Joshua Rosenson and Daniel Rosenson; as well as several great-nieces and -nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Rosenson.

Chip's funeral took place on Wednesday, June 24th at Temple Emanu-El Memorial Park with the help of Dallas Jewish Funerals and Rabbi Debra Robbins. Over 100 friends and family members memorialized Chip's life via GoToMeeting and Zoom.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Chip's life to Temple Emmanu-El of Dallas, Irving Havurah, or PLAN, a program of Jewish Family Service of Greater Dallas.

"Chip rosenson and I were very close friends for over 40 years. From our time in Dallas to his visits in my home in New Mexico and in California. He was part of my wedding party and he was part of my children's lives. We visited back and forth across States for over 40 years. He asked me if he would if I would do the eulogy at his funeral. Because I couldn't be there and was not part of the zoom service of course I could not do that so I will do that now. Chip was very kind and loyal helpful as more than an incredibly good friend, but somebody who really listen to your heart. He was more of a family member to my children than my own family ever was. He was more of a brother to me than my own brother ever was. He told me that I was the best friend he would ever have and he was the best friend I would ever have. We decided who ever died first, would have the other ones speak at their eulogy. And these very unusual times this is how I can accomplish that. We all should be so lucky to have somebody liked it being our lives in the lives of our family. What an incredible blessing. And for all of us and especially for you, chip, the best is certainly Yet to Come. Love you very much Alexa and"

"Chip Rosenson was a truly kind person. I worked at Windsor Senior Living, and as the only Jewish staff person, I led a service each Friday. When Chip moved in, he was quick to become a loyal participant and always asked what he could do to help me. When I left, Chip took over leading the service so that it would continue. His love of Jewish learning encouraged my own. He will be remembered fondly."

"Chip was a wonderful friend to my family. He was gentle, kind, generous, intelligent, well read, a great teacher and was supportive of all. He was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed. He taught us that an individual's life can be changed by kindness. I feel very blessed to have shared life's journey with him. He always said that the Best is Yet to Come and I know he is in the very best place now. My family sends sympathy and hugs to Marilyn, Cecilia and the rest of Chip's family. Pat Shaughnessy "

"Chip Rosenson was a remarkable person in so many ways and to so many people. He was life long learner. He was a voracious reader. He was generous, loyal, kind and forgiving. I believe all of the people who were fortunate to have known Chip are truly blessed. I miss him, the twinkle in his eye and how I felt he was always truly glad to see me. We were the same age, so he like to call me Julie Bangledesh ...a nod to our generation. Always made me smile. I know I will miss him, like I imagine many of his family and friends will miss him, however when I think of Chip I feel joyful that I knew him. In the words of Chip ...I too believe ?The Best is Yet To Come?. with warm admiration and love, Julie Bangle"

Liz Olsson wrote on Jun 23, 2020:

"I will always remember and miss Chip. His life was worthwhile and his presence mattered to so many people. A leader and a mentor, Chip passed on to others the lessons he learned. Chip was one of the kindest people I?ve ever known. I never heard him say an unkind word about anyone. He was unfailingly upbeat even during hard times. Chip put his whole heart and soul into living a good life and trying to help others. I?m so glad he was generous about sharing his autobiography because it helped me understand and know him better. I?ll always treasure it. Chip often said, ?the best is yet to come? and, just the way he said it, made people believe it was true. Chip always focused on others, never himself. For many years, Chip and I sang with the Iris Place Singers, a group that performs at senior citizens? homes. He sang with infectious enthusiasm. Chip became very close to the leader of the singing group, Jeanine Hayes, who left the world just over two years ago. I like to think that they?re together again. - Liz Olsson"

Velita Smith wrote on Jun 23, 2020:

"Chip has been a large part of my life these last several years. Every Monday, except during July, the Iris Place Singers either practiced or performed. As the pianist, I depended on Chip?s strong voice to help me keep on track with the modifications that were made to the songs- repeating the last line for example. When he greeted me, it was ?I know you are doing good in all the ways that matter?. Chip will be missed. "
