In loving memory of

Charles Edward Williams
October 29, 1956 - June 16, 2020

"May the works I've done speak for me."

Charles Edward Williams (also known as Baby Charles, Ba-Charles, Chuck, Charlie, or B.C.) made his debut in the world on October 29,1956 at Herman Kiefer hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He was the third child of six children born to the union of the late Finis Williams Sr. and Lena Arzetta Greene. He was preceded in death by both parents.

His childhood formative years and his whole adult life was spent on the lower east side in the city of Detroit, Michigan. He was educated in the public school system and earned a GED in 1982.

On August 9, 1982, Charles made Marcia Smith his wife. To this union four children were blessed and raised: Damon Darnell, Stephanie Jawana, Charles Edward, Jr., and Brandon Tre. Charles joined St. Johns AME church in 1965. He was baptized at New Bethlehem Missionary church by Reverend Pastor Theodore Peck Jr. in 2001. He later followed Pastor Peck to Miracle of Faith Ministries where he rededicated his life to Christ in 2017.

He loved to share many of his pastimes with his wife and kids. He was a T.V. connoisseur and loved surfing channels with remote in hand, in a horizontal position. Other favorites of his were family gatherings and family trips. Charles enjoyed all sporting events, especially boxing. His other favorite pastimes included basketball, football, attending concerts, politics, eating and cooking. He was an excellent cook! He learned his culinary skills from his mother whom he affectionately called "Yada".

Charles' employment background included Thorn Apple Valley, Chrysler and Smart/Semta. He received specialized training and education and was certified in Nursing Assistance and Heating and Cooling. He was known for imparting much wisdom and mentoring to family and friends and was the true definition of a father to his four children and grandfather to his two grandchildren. The neighborhood children and his infinite adopted family members lovingly stood in line waiting to converse with him or taste some of his delicious dishes such as salmon croquettes, corn beef, pot roast and his famous salami-bologna sandwich-with an egg on top. While Charles had extensive culinary skills, he especially loved his wife's gumbo and banana pudding.

Ba-Charles retired from Smart/Semta on December 21, 2009. He enjoyed his final years surrounded by love. His family legacy truly goes on and so will some of his sayings such as "I ain't studdin 'em", "I'm toughing it out" and "It ain't nothing but love".

Charles Edward Williams departed this life on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 after he "toughed it out" for four months.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his lovely wife Marcia, whom he affectionately called "Marci"; four children, Damon, Stephanie, Charles Jr. (Dominique) and Brandon; two grandchildren, Lauren and Jaia; five loving siblings; Finis Jr. (Cescily), Cynthia (Raynard), Sheila (Theodore Jr.), Teresa (John), and Craig. Three uncles; Benny, Robert Sr. (Effie) Paul Gerald (Kathy), Six aunts; Naomi, Annette, Georgia Ree, Ardrella, Brenda and Debby (Mark); a devoted extended family; sister in law, Janice, two brother-in laws, Matthew and Willie; godson Calvin Byrd, godsister Monica Hill and godbrother Kenneth Grey. Charles is also survived by many nieces and nephews who all loved and adored their uncle "Ba-Charles". He will also be missed by a host of other family members and friends.

Marlborough street will never be the same. Today, we can hear Charles Edward Williams Sr. saying, "May the works I have done speak for me. I love you all! It really ain't nothing but love!"

"The Loss Of A Cousin My eyes filled up with tears as I heard the news. It never occurred to me how much I could lose a cousin. I find myself wishing that it wasn't real. Every time I think about it, pain is all I can feel. Tears fall from my eyes; I can barely see, But my heart tells me that he'll always be with me. I'm glad he feels no pain now; he lives in a perfect land. I can still feel the soft touch on my shoulder of his loving hand -Love Cuzzo Shanika"
