In loving memory of

Doris Jean Mulholland
February 9, 1932 - June 28, 2020

It is with sadness, yet great joy, that we let you know of our wonderful mother's passing into eternity with Christ on June 28, 2020 in Rochester, MN at the age of 88. Sadness, because we will miss her terribly, and joy, because four years after her stroke she now has a perfect body that is able to walk, talk and sing before the Saviour she loved.
Mom was born in Salina, KS to Salvation Army officers (pastors) and grew up with music as a big part of her life. She played the piano, organ, accordion, and all brass instruments. She graduated from high school in Grand Forks, ND and began college at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN where she met our dad in a Bible class.
Our parents fell in love and mom left college partway through her first year, was married, and had seven children by the age of 29.
From the time we were young mom was active in various church ministries, leading youth groups, women's Bible studies and programs, playing the piano and organ, and leading choirs. She was a huge prayer warrior and led the prayer times in her Oasis class at Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Rochester.
After her children were grown, mom went back to school and in 1987 graduated from Metropolitan State University in Minneapolis with a degree in Mass Communications. She was honored as Female Student of the Year.
Mom and Dad joined Gideons in 1990 were actively involved for many years. Mom was State Chaplain in 1994 and between 2006 and 2008. She was a local Camp president, played piano for the Regional convention for 20 years and the Tri-State convention for several years. You would find her at the Rochester County Fair passing out New Testaments to anyone interested, and for several years she played the piano for the Minnesota State Gideon Conventions, as well as the Tri-State Gideon Conventions.
She is survived by her children, Carol (Dave) Peterson; Craig (Tracy); Rodney; David (Lorrie); Timothy (Sherri); Paul (Laura); and Jean (Craig) Thoreson, 20 grandchildren; and 34 great grandchildren.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, brother (John Potts), husband, Kenneth Harlan, granddaughter, Vanessa (Mulholland) and grandson, Christian James Peterson (stillborn).
Due to COVID-19, family and friends are invited to a short celebration of life and interment at Oronoco Cemetery, Oronoco, MN on Thursday, July 2 at 11:00 am, Pastor Tim Nelson officiating. Because of the probable humid, warm weather, please feel free to dress casually.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of mom to: Gideons International, Rochester Camp, P.O. Box 6083, Rochester, MN 55903
Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised. Proverbs 31:30 (NLT)

"May God comfort your family in the loss of Doris. She was a dear person and truly knew her Lord. I worked with Doris at the Samaritan Bethany Foundation back in 1987 (?) and we worked well together . She was a busy person for the Lord and had no problem witnessing. I do remember going to an anniversary party that you put on for Ken and Doris. May God continue to help you through the days ahead.
