Manuel Amancio Botelho
January 21, 1923 - September 30, 2003

Middletown, - Manuel Amancio Botelho, 80, formerly of 885 Mitchells Lane, Middletown, died Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at 14 Pilgrim Lane Portsmouth, RI, the home of his son.He was the husband of the late Susan Mary Schuberth Botelho. Born in New Bedford, MA on January 21, 1923, he was the son of the late Frank and Virginia Amaral Botelho, Sr. Mr. Botelho was the owner and operator of ?The Workshop? for 28 years, retiring in 2001. He was in the Army Air Force during World War II as a surgical technician, serving in Italy and the USA. He was a Middletown Police Officer for 20 years, and during the 1960s he served as deputy sheriff for Newport County. From the 1950s until 1963 he owned and operated The Farmers Market on Aquidneck Avenue in Middletown. Mr. Botelho also worked in the security department at Raytheon for 20 years retiring in 1980. He is survived by two sons Barry Francis Botelho of Portsmouth, RI, and Angelo Botelho of Middletown, RI, four daughters Maryann Jordan of Sudbury, MA, Kathleen Maloney of Newport, RI, Lisa McKenna of Wakefield, RI, and Mandy Alexander of Portsmouth, RI, four brothers Frank Botelho Jr. of Middletown, RI, Alfred Botelho of Bristol, RI, Louis Botelho of Middletown, RI, and Richard Botelho of Jamestown, RI, four sisters Almorinda Medeiros of Vero Beach, FL, Olga DeMello of Middletown, RI, Virginia Jennings of Newport, RI, and Agnes Michael of Middletown, RI, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.He was the brother of the late Joseph Botelho, and George Botelho. His funeral will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2003, at 10:00AM, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 222 Richmond Street, Suite 200, Providence, RI 02903-4253 or to the Middletown Rescue Wagon Fund, 239 Wyatt Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
